RMF Pays Tribute to Dame Esther Rantzen

The Russell Martin Foundation is saddened to hear of the passing of Dame Esther Rantzen, aged 86.

A much-loved broadcaster and tireless campaigner, Dame Esther leaves an extraordinary legacy through her work supporting some of the most vulnerable people in society.

In 1986, she founded Childline, giving children and young people a safe and confidential place to turn for help. She later founded The Silver Line, providing support and companionship to older people experiencing loneliness and isolation.

Her lifelong commitment to helping others, and particularly to ensuring children feel heard, safe and supported, is something that resonates strongly with everyone at the Russell Martin Foundation.

Through our own work across Sussex, we support children and young people through education, football, health, mentoring and community programmes, creating safe environments where they can build confidence, develop and access opportunities.

Dame Esther showed the enormous difference that compassion, determination and a willingness to listen can make. Her legacy will continue through the millions of lives touched by her work.

Our thoughts are with her family, friends and everyone at Childline and The Silver Line.
