In Memory of Andy Marchant

Everyone at the Russell Martin Foundation was deeply saddened by the passing of Andy Marchant last month. Andy was a founder Trustee of the RMF charity from 2016 to 2017. He was also the founder and Chair of the Sussex based Let’s Dance charity.  A former professional footballer at AFC Wimbledon, following spells at Brighton and Hove Albion and Southend United, Andy retrained as a teacher when injury cut short his playing career. He worked for 35 years at Dorothy Stringer School in Brighton, becoming Assistant Head and Director of Sport. Andy was a wonderful ambassador for sports and dance and for young people in Sussex, and a tireless advocate for giving individuals of all backgrounds and abilities equal opportunities to take part. He was an inspiration to all who worked with him and he will be greatly missed.

Alan Sanders, CEO of  RMF said: I am deeply saddened that Andy Marchant has passed away. We worked closely together initially as PE teachers, then at Albion in the Community, Lets Dance and as trustees at RMF. His impact through physical activity on thousands of young people in Sussex over the past 50 years as been immense. He was an inspirational figure to so many including those who worked with him.

Russell Martin, Founder and Trustee of RMF said: Andy was a remarkable man whose passion, kindness, and unwavering commitment to young people left an incredible mark on our community. I was proud to have him serve as one of the first trustees of the Russell Martin Foundation, his support, experience, and belief in our mission meant so much. On a personal level, I remember Andy from my own childhood, when he was involved in the Brighton Boys football setup. He played a part in my early football journey, and it’s something I’ve never forgotten.

The Russell Martin Foundation will work with Let’s Dance and his many friends, colleagues and family to ensure that Andy's legacy lives on.

Rest in Peace.
