The Russell Martin Foundation is looking for a Director of Football & Facility Development to help lead the next stage of our growth, shaping our football programmes, developing new facilities, and supporting the long-term strategy of the Foundation.

It's a senior, full-time role at the heart of RMF, working closely with our Chief Executive and Senior Management Team to drive the charity forward both on the pitch and off it.

What the Role Involves

This is a broad, hands-on leadership position. The successful candidate will oversee and support the Head of the Russell Martin Academy (RMA), representing RMF with partners, stakeholders and external agencies while helping shape the Foundation's wider strategic direction.

Facility development is a major part of the brief. The role will help identify sites RMF could manage, work with the CEO to bring the Old Barn Way facility online for RMA and local partners, and oversee the continued success of Hove Park, as well as line managing our Head of Facility Maintenance.

Income generation and programme quality sit alongside this. The Director will work with the COO on funding to support low-income families, help RMA identify and deliver tournaments, festivals and overseas tours that generate income through membership and sponsorship, and ensure every football programme we deliver meets the highest standard, with proper monitoring, evaluation and compliance throughout.

There's a staff management element too: line managing the Manager of RMA, setting and tracking KPIs, and conducting appraisals and quarterly reviews to keep the team supported and accountable.

Who We're Looking For

We need someone with a genuine, proven understanding of football and sports development programmes, along with real experience of inclusion-based work spanning disability, gender and cultural minorities. Extensive management experience, of people, programmes and budgets, is essential, as is the ability to operate at a high standard in a fast-moving environment.

Beyond the technical skills, we're looking for excellent communication, up-to-date safeguarding and welfare certification, and a manner that reflects the values of the Foundation. A UEFA B Certification or above, strong contacts within football and local schools, and current knowledge of football initiatives that could benefit RMA and RMF are all a bonus, though not essential.

The Details

  • Contract: Full-time
  • Hours: 37 hours per week
  • Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer
  • Salary: To be confirmed

Why It Matters

This role sits right at the intersection of two things RMF cares about most: giving people access to high-quality football, and building the physical spaces that make that possible for years to come. Whoever takes this on will have a genuine hand in shaping what RMF and RMA look like for the next generation of young people across Sussex.
